The topic of sustainability has been important in fashion for several years. The second\u2013year students of the Fashion Design study program of Art Academy of Faculty of Arts and Education of Kaunas University of Applied Sciences are interested in fashion trends, therefore they spend half a year studying the topic of sustainability and its branch \u2013 upcycling.<\/p>\n

Students explore sustainability both theoretically and practically. They have to create pr\u00eat\u2013\u00e0\u2013porter models using non\u2013wearing clothes, also design a collection of sustainable fashion in carrying out their study tasks. Young fashion designers develop sewing skills, increase the value of old, non\u2013wearing clothes by creating new patterns and being consulted by program coordinator Stella Justina Kasperavi\u010diene. Students develope creative skills together with lecturer Rimante Rimgailaite implementing sustainable collection projects. The program coordinator says, that students take creative approach to sustainability. \u201cAfter reviewing many analogues, they interpret them doing sketches, and then \u2013 realizing the best ideas. They radically change non\u2013wearing clothes or transform their usual functions \u201d, \u2013 says S. J. Kasperavi\u010diene.<\/p>\n

Works of young fashion designers were presented in the exhibition \u201eFrom Old to New\u201c at the international week \u201cSustainable Approach to Education\u201d organized by Kaunas University of Applied Sciences. Also, models created by students, all united by the use of denim, will be presented as a sustainable collection at the annual international fashion show \u201eApkalbos\u201c, where young fashion designers not only from Lithuania, but also from Latvia, Croatia, Cyprus and other countries show their collections.<\/p>\n
